Cloudy Sunrise by EvaMcDermott Cloudy Sunrise by EvaMcDermott
A cloudy sunrise at Ocean Point, Boothbay Maine.

OK, I know many won't like this because of the distorted color in the sky but I like the purple hue imparted by the use of this filter. I used a 4-Stop Reverse Gradient here with a warming polarizer color intensifier knowing the effect I would get. So have at it. The lines in the sky do compliment the lines in the foreground. Thanks for looking. All C&C welcome and appreciated.

Canon 5D MarkII
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L at 16mm
ISO100 1/4sec f/16
Singh-Ray LB Color Combo
Singh-Ray 4-Stop Reverse ND Gradient
Very minor tweaks in PS CS4 (Tilt correction, burning foreground)

Which one do you prefer?

Prefer this one. The sky is so beautiful.
Seems like it carries emotion behind it whereas the other doesn't seem to as much.
Fantastic shot. =D

I particularly like this one for its drama and extra dynamic colour range, even though it probably doesn't look natural. Sometimes I think a photo can be made exceptional by adding to it in this way, and this is one of those photos. Surely this is all part of the artistry in photography...

So Eva is the colour cast do to the use of the CP & grad in combination with each other or does the 4 stop reverse grad have that cast on it's own?

I think it is the combination of the LB color combo and +4 reverse grad. I have not used the +4 grad on its own since I usually have the LB color combo on this lens.

Oh, alright I guess I overlooked that part of the description, I have found this to be a bit of an issue with Singh Ray filters and find it very disappointing to say the least since otherwise they are of the highest quality available.

I love it. The fact that you got results like that where I would typically use a program like Photomatix makes me want to invest in some filters, maybe.

The location here is great, too.

I like this one the best. Your use of the filter only enhances, it doesn't distract.

Beautifully done!

If it looks like you wanted it to look and I'm sure it does, then you need not worry about people's color preferences. Most could not do it. Personally, I like bold colors.

Actually, I don't normally like colour filters, but in this case I find it makes the picture much better than the original.
