Olympic National Park, WA, August 2008. I have been going through some of my older files for a couple of reasons - 1) lack of new material lately, 2) updating my website with newly processed older images, 3) to find something I may have overlooked, and 4) lastly, not bore your with my Cape Breton shots. This particular image, I overlooked but decided I liked it and tried to make it work.
With this image I particularly liked the light coming through the leaves but it was taken in very harsh light. When you visit a place once every 26 years you don't get leeway with going back for better light. I shot this at three exposures +1 0 -1. After fooling around with it in CS5 for a while to no avail, I opted to process this in Photomatix Pro 4 (which I have rarely done lately but have the program in my tool box so why not when all else fails) with those three exposures (exposure fusion with adjustments). I tweaked it further CS5 with TK luminosity layers to take down some of the harshest light.
I am interested in your thoughts on this. Does the processing look natural (which is something I always strive for)? I also know it is busy but my eyes are focusing on the back lit leaves so I already have a bias. Any advice on how to improve the processing is most welcome as are any comments and critiques. BTW - Compression may be killing this as well since I had to go down to 50% so please check out the larger view. Thanks.

It's an interesting shot, but the processing does not look natural to me. Too much shadow recovery in my opinion (which Photomatix usually does). Cool shot nonetheless.
I do miss that part of the world so very much
