A clearing sky at sunset after a rainy day in mid coast Maine, I was engulfed by the mist, color, and beauty. This was taken on the Fourth of July weekend 2007 with my first DLSR camera (after 35 years of film work). This is Back River, Boothbay, Maine looking toward Oven's Mouth which is just past the dock on the right. Taken from our dock. This is high tide, but at mid tide, the water boils in Oven's Mouth and Back River too sometimes with whirl pools. If the wind conditions are just right, there can be 5 to 8 foot standing waves. Quite scary in a 20' boat but down right dangerous in a kayak. Been there, done both...... Water can run through the narrow channel at 7 knots at times. But this evening was just beautifully calm before we had to head home after a delightful weekend. I just did not want to leave especially after seeing this scene. My husband and kids had to drag me off our dock..... me kicking and screaming of course. I just did not want to leave.
